Access IT helps people become digitally included!
Salima, a 27 year old local Westminster resident had recently moved to the area from outside of London. She had been trying to find a job for over a year, and was now seeking to improve her IT skills in order to enhance her job prospects.
Salima joined the Access IT: Beginners Word course, where her needs were assessed and she was given tailored support to meet them. Tutors gave her focussed CV coaching and as her confidence grew, Salima proved herself to be a keen learner and progressed quickly through the course. Whilst Salima seemed to benefit greatly from the learning opportunities that she received, she also seemed to enjoy getting to know other people from her local community, forging connections that made her feel more at home in her new city.
Towards the end of the course Salima felt confident enough to help others in the class with their tasks, and as Access IT drew to an end, the tutor offered Salima the chance to become a Volunteer Support Tutor on the next Access IT course. Salima was thrilled to be considered for the volunteer role and said that she was looking forward to being able make a positive difference in her neighbourhood whilst also developing transferrable skills in a community learning environment.
