Gary began volunteering with Vital Regeneration’s Open Spaces projects in March 2009, supporting the development of open spaces in the Church Street Ward. 

At the time he was not in education and was struggling to gain paid work.  Gary spent three months volunteering to help on a number of projects, mainly working to clear the gardens of elderly residents.

Having the experience of volunteering Gary was then able to secure part time work at a garden centre.  From here we were able to secure him a horticulture apprenticeship at Capel Manor in Regent’s Park, beginning in September 2009.
