Laron, 23, developed extensive skills through involvement in the Re-Evolve project

I was looking for a volunteering project to strengthen my CV and give me valuable experience working with young people and personal development.  I saw an online advertisement for the Re-Evolve project, it seemed like an unusual and intriguing project to volunteer with.

During my time on the Re-Evolve project I have dabbled in just about everything.  My duties have ranged from administration, recruitment, marketing, networking with other organisations, designing and presenting workshops to coordinating events for young people and delivering presentations.  It has all helped towards testing out the skills I have learnt in training sessions and enhancing my self-confidence.

As a Re-Evolve volunteer, I have been able to attend a variety of free workshops tailored to different careers and core skills.  For instance, I participated in a life coaching workshop presented by ‘Striding Out’.  These sessions allowed me to improve my self-confidence and help me maintain a set of positive values.

I have also been presented with other volunteering opportunities, external training sessions and paid work placements through Re-Evolve's networks with so many other organisations.  This has all helped to enhance my CV and forge relationships with people from various industries.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being involved with Re-Evolve’s partnership with The Prince’s Trust Team programme.  Since starting with Re-Evolve, I have been involved with four Prince’s Trust teams, working in partnership to develop a different course for each team within their 12-week programme.  Most memorably, I was involved with a film editing course with each team member filming a short interview with a professional in a career that they were interested in.  I worked along side a team member who was filming at Chelsea Football Club and another based in the fashion industry, which involved me participating in a photo shoot.

I believe we need more options available for young people like Re-Evolve.  It is sometimes more daunting to ask for professional advice and it’s easier for young people to relate to other young people without fear of rejection.
