Leroy, 19
Leroy has a strong aptitude for computing skills, having gained a Level 3 qualification in IT. He was keen to progress into employment, feeling certain that he was not interested in taking the Higher Education route. However, Leroy had become disillusioned with his employment search by the time he came to the Apprenticeships Advice Service.
He met with an Adviser who went through his initial assessment and then drew up an action plan to address the areas that they identified Leroy would need to develop. This included building his confidence, which had been affected by his frustration with his search for employment. The Adviser worked with Leroy to prepare a strong CV and then they worked to develop his interview skills. Leroy felt that he was becoming more assured throughout the process.
The next stage was for the Adviser to support Leroy in going through current opportunities listings, to identify those that might be of interest and which matched his skills and experience.
An opportunity for an apprenticeship with CityWest Homes appealed to Leroy and his Adviser supported him through the application and the selection process. Leroy was the successful candidate and began his new role with enthusiasm.
He has since boosted his qualifications with an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration. “I’m looking to the opportunities that my future holds, as I want to develop my career and make the most of my options,” says Leroy. His Adviser provides after-care support to Leroy, including working together on long term career planning. He has now progressed to permanent employment with CityWest Homes as a Technical Administrator, based in its Housing Maintenance department.
