Nargis volunteered as an IT Tutor due to the support of our Westminster Works Advisors

Nargis had been trying hard to secure a job when she joined the Westminster Works project.  She felt that she needed help to develop her CV and a covering letter that matched what her ideal employer was looking for.

Nargis attended the Westminster Works group employment sessions and NetWork Hub, where she learnt how to make herself more employable.  She also worked on a one to one basis with her adviser Msulle.  Msulle provided her with the support and guidance she needed to secure the role she wanted.

Nargis decided that she needed to undertake a voluntary placement to enhance her skills and gain experience.  Msulle used her networks to match Nargis to a voluntary role as an IT tutor at a local library.  This experience proved invaluable, providing Nargis with the opportunity to enhance her skills whilst building her confidence.  It also allowed Nargis to meet people who worked in sectors she had not previously thought to persue emplyment in, along with access to  vacancies with these sectors.  Nargis is now working as a Recruitment Officer as a direct result of her volunteer placement.

When asked how she would sum up her experience on the project, Nargis commented that volunteering helped her to;

“be positive and not give up.  To be more confident and helped me to understand the importance of doing voluntary work and the effect networking can have.”
