Spyros, 18
Spyros joined Studio+ in late 2006 and set about collecting some impressive music production qualifications. These included the Level 2 MIDI Sequencers Accreditation, Level 3 Audio and MIDI Sequencers Accreditation plus a literacy qualification.
Spyros also worked on the sell-out Last of the Summer Wine event, when an audience of 250 gathered in the Long Rooms, Queen’s Park in September 2007. It was the successful finale of the Events Management Course, with up and coming RnB band Khy and several other acts performing.
Following these achievements, Spyros became a Studio+ Youth Ambassador from 2008-2009, promoting the project among his peers. He sat on the Studio+ Steering Group from 2008 to 2009 and helped develop the business plan to scale up Studio+. Spyros has played a crucial role in meeting with funders to encourage them to support the project to help more people in the future.
Spyros was awarded a prize for his hard work on the Events Management Course – a year’s subscription to an Events Management Publication – to help him keep up with industry news and developments.
Spyros also worked as a freelance cameraman on the consultation video production and social networking website development for Studio+.
“The first time I attended Studio+ I was working in an electronics supply store but loved making music, something I did at home regularly,” Spyros says. “The second time I was unemployed voluntarily, trying to gain a foothold on the events management and club promotion ladder. This is where Studio+ really helped me out.”
Spyros has developed his career aspirations in a different direction over a three-year period. “My future plans for employment are to complete my Mortgage Adviser course in September and be granted my license from the FSA,” explains Spyros when we contacted him in August 2009. “I’ll then undergo further training as a financial adviser to extend on my prior studies. This will hopefully set me up for a new career somewhere in either of these fields and set me up for my longer term goals.”
