Festival of Fun in the Sun

Vital Regeneration and CityWest Homes teamed up to host a ‘Festival of Fun’ on the Fisherton Estate in Church Street.  The community event hosted a fun packed afternoon of activities and was the first of it's kind on the estate.

Amongst the Easter egg hunts, face painting and performances from local groups, there were also stalls promoting local services.  It was an opportunity for residents to have fun and share their views on their community.

Local resident Sandra Henderson, who helped organise the event, said “This will be the first time these residents have come together in the courtyard like this.  I wanted to have this event because I feel that if you build a strong community sense then you can influence what happens in your neighbourhood.  So I’m really glad for them today as it has given them a real taste of community.”

Sadie Ur-Rehman, Community Enterprise Manager at Vital Regeneration, commented “I’m really pleased; people are having a good time and really getting involved! We hope to do more events like this, and will be looking at what residents want and what we can do.  It’s been a great opportunity to get hands-on and into the community.”

The event also helped to promote Fisherton Community Hall, which is currently an underused resource in the estate.  Equipped with refurbished areas, CCTV and even a music mixing room, the hall is an ideal venue for local groups.
Local Estate Manager Vince Lyons said “Fisherton Hall is very much underused so we’re trying to make residents more aware of it.  Also, when it comes to something like a Residents Association, people just don’t have the time anymore.  That’s why we’ve put on this event.  It gives us an opportunity to bounce discussions off our residents by bringing our service to their doorsteps.  Feedback from the residents today has been that this is the first time an event like this has happened for them- and they hope there will be more.”
