Generations Together SHOWCASE at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith

Generations Together

End of project celebration and showcase

On Wednesday 16th March 2011 at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith the local community and participating organisations in the Hammersmith and Fulham Generations Together project (part of a national £5.5 million project) came together to celebrate the end of the contract and showcase the work achieved.

Local dignitaries and councillors, including the mayor of the borough, along with local people, professionals and other guests were invited into the Studio Theatre where each participating organisation was given the stage to showcase a snapshot of their accomplishments.  Vital Regeneration’s FreqOUT!, which played an important part in the Generations Together project, was given the opportunity to screen a beautifully edited (by the FreqOUT! team’s lead editors Andrea Paffetti and Melissa Bliss) 5 minute compilation of the workshops delivered over the past year.  The film included film, sound and images from the Vivendi Youth Media Arts at The Time of Your Life event, workshops run at HAFAD (Hammersmith and Fulham Action on Disability), Age Concern, Chelsea Football Club and Sunberry Independent Living Centre.  The film was very well received by the audience (of around 100 people) and the Project Manager of the H&F Generations Together project then directed people to the Vital Regeneration website and the FreqOUT! blog to watch the film again:

The audience then adjourned to the Market Place within the Lyric Theatre to meet with other members of the public circulating around the stalls of each of the participating organisations.  Vital Regeneration’s FreqOUT! team  manned a stall with a projector and screen which showed the full versions of the media-scapes produced throughout the project.  Several Vivendi Youth Media Artists and older generational participants came and enjoyed seeing their work screened, whilst also being able to enjoy feeling part of an even bigger project.

The achievements of FreqOUT! Generations Together in a snapshot:

FreqOUT! Generations Together engaged 35 intergenerational volunteers, 67 intergenerational participants (102 total), of which 45 under 25’s and 57 over 50's were involved in 24 workshops with 9 myth-busting sessions.  To recruit the programme volunteers and participants partnerships were built with a wide array of community organisations and groups: Age Concern, HAFAD, Chelsea Football Club, Open Age, Sunberry Independent Living Centre, Hammersmith College, V-Talent, Burlington Danes and Children’s Services Young Offending Team - all in the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.  A cross section of members of the community were involved in the new media workshops including individuals and groups with disabilities, unemployed, retired, at school, at college and volunteers both voluntary and as part of programmes.  These groups were mixed together in creative and dynamic ways to create an array of digital products including two Google-maps, a photo album, two documentary films and three media-scapes, one of which was showcased on the big screen at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith and seen by over 100 people.
