Going the Distance for Charity in Westminster
Vital Regeneration and Hilton in the Community Foundation spring into action to go “Around the World in a Day” for charity this May.
Vital Regeneration is inviting the local community to step up and travel “Around the World in a Day” on Sunday 20 May as part of Hilton in the Community Foundation’s annual charity challenge.
All proceeds raised from this year’s event in Westminster will be donated to Vital Regeneration’s Create+ and After School Club projects which benefit local disadvantaged young people.
The fundraiser in Paddington Recreation Ground is part of a continental Europe-wide challenge organised by Hilton in the Community Foundation, the official charity of Hilton Worldwide in Europe. Hotel team members from more than 100 hotels across eight countries will be working together with charity partners, like Vital Regeneration, and members of the public on the day. They will collectively attempt to virtually travel 24,901.55 miles (40,075.16 kms), the circumference of the earth, in aid of charities supporting ill and disadvantaged children and young adults, chosen by each hotel.
Avner On, General Manager, Hilton London Metropole, said, “Our team is very excited to be working together to support Vital Regeneration for ‘Around the World in a Day’. We welcome anyone who wants to take part in the challenge, so please do register today or get in touch if you want to join us on 20th May for an amazing day of fun and exercise!”
Since it was founded in 2007, the ‘Around the World in a Day’ event has raised an incredible €437,166 in support of 226 different children’s charities, schools and good causes. It has provided a fun and active way for hotels to link up with and support their local communities in a welcome addition to their year-round Foundation activities. The 2012 international event is kindly supported by Precor, Brakes and Thomas Cook in addition to many local sponsors.
Vital Regeneration’s Chief Executive, Angela McConville says, “we’d like to wish everyone luck on the day and say a big thank you for the ongoing support given to us by Hilton in the Community Foundation. The funds you all raise will go on to support two of our frontline projects, Create+ and After School Clubs, which benefit disadvantaged children and young people in Westminster”.
Registration packs, including an event t-shirt cost just £5.00. To register or to find out more information, please call +44 (0)20 7605 7641 or log onto http://www.hilton-foundation.org.uk/ATWD6/AWD6.htm
About Hilton in the Community Foundation:
Hilton in the Community Foundation was founded in 2000 as Hilton Worldwide's charity vehicle in Europe dedicated to supporting young people in need by combating exclusion and providing skills, aspirations and opportunities. Focussed on improving access to, and the quality of, education and healthcare, the Foundation mobilises local giving and targets four key areas: disabled children, children in hospitals, children's hospices and homelessness. Grants help vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in Europe.
The Foundation's core costs are funded by Hilton Worldwide, so every net pound/euro raised goes directly to good causes. Donations are funded almost entirely through the generous efforts and contributions of team members, family and friends and with the support of guests and company suppliers. Since its establishment in November 2000 the Foundation has raised over £10 million for charity.
