New Media+ Film Production Pilot – Spring 2010
Spring 2010 was exciting for the Studio+ programme as it expanded into its first creative “hook”. In a bid to continue reaching more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, we are expanding into five new creative learning areas, all of which will be embedded with either literacy or numeracy to continue developing those all-important transferable skills in preparation for progression into further education, training or employment.
New Media+ was a film production project, embedded with literacy. Our experience delivery team consisted of a film tutor, literacy tutor and youth worker. Together, they delivered a film production project that culminated in short film that was conceived, written, shot and edited by the New Media+ group over the duration of 11 three-hour long sessions. These were delivered in partnership with the Amadeus Centre on Shirland Road and the Amberley Youth Project on Clearenwell Drive.
As with all Studio_+ projects, all participants build an accredited Bronze Arts Award portfolio and developed their literacy/communication skills with the literacy tutor, sitting the national test at the end of the project. For their Arts Award portfolio, they attended A Thousand Stars Explode in the Sky at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith and even managed their way backstage to speak with the starts of the show!
The premiere of the participants’ film will be shown 4pm pm on 1st July at the Amberley Youth Project. All are welcome!
