New Training Partnership with International Construction Firm

Westminster Works has entered into a new partnership with international construction company, Bouygues UK, to create training and employment opportunities for local people.

The company wants to increase the number of formwork operatives in its workforce.  Formwork is a well-paid skill in creating concrete shapes for making building foundations, with workers interpreting plans to create channels for electric cables and other services to run through the structure.

Westminster Works will find an initial group of 15 candidates to train.  Those who show aptitude in learning the skill of formwork will be selected for a special three week course run by Bouygues at the National Construction College in Newham.  They will then undergo a three-week work trial.  It is likely that around half of the group will get paid jobs immediately from the scheme and the others will have learned a very marketable skill.

For Bouygues UK this partnership with Westminster Works is a way of finding new workers but also fulfilling the company’s commitment to developing local initiatives for the benefit of the community.  Bouygues UK is Westminster City Council’s partner on the major Building Schools for the Future programme.  The Council has facilitated the training partnership between Bouygues and Westminster Works.
