Re-Evolve at Queens Park Festival

On Saturday 7th August Re-Evolve attended the Queen’s Park Festival held in Queen’s Park Gardens just a short walk away from our base at the Beethoven Centre.  The festival provided Re-evolve with the perfect opportunity to get involved with the local community and provide local young people with information about the project.

The atmosphere at the festival was really relaxed and family friendly, our stall received plenty of interest from the younger members of the crowds, as it was the only stall in the ‘health section’ giving away free sweets.  Greedy children aside, the community seemed truly interested and supportive of the project.

Visitors to our stall were also attracted to our ‘Speak Out Britain’ competition, which involved us recording interviews with young people to discover more about their personal experiences of careers advice and what advice they would give to others.  We also interviewed older members of the public, including the Mayor of Westminster, all of whom had very useful words of advice for today’s young people.

To enable the Re-Evolve volunteers to film at the festival Re-Evolve provided two days of training in filming technique and editing.  The footage will eventually be uploaded onto Re-Evolves website for all our young users to view.

Volunteers from Re-Evolve also filmed footage for the Queen’s Park Forum who run the festival, with the forum about to cease due to lack of funding, our footage could perhaps be a poignant record of the last ever Queen’s Park Festival.  We at Re-Evolve wish the forum all the best in their fight to continue.
