The Youth Voice of London gets to showcase its views

Members of the local community, funders and supporters all came together on 5th December to show their appreciation for a group of young talented artists from the FreqOUT! project, run by Vital Regeneration.

This showcase event, held in the prestigious Serpentine Gallery ‘Centre for Possible Studies’, celebrated and brought attention to the voice of London youth.  Participants of all ages were able to share their experiences of living in London and highlighted their achievements on the FreqOUT! project.

Their short-films and media-scapes were projected for the local community to enjoy, while a live participatory polymedia workshop demonstrated the dynamic nature of the FreqOUT! sessions.

There were also awards for those who’d worked on the project, live music by young artists from other Vital Regeneration projects and an interactive discussion with the audience.

Oliver Proctor, FreqOUT! Manager, says; "We are proud to have co-hosted such a fantastic event in partnership with the Serpentine Gallery’s, Centre for Possible Studies.  It was a great opportunity to bring together our participants, members of the community, project sponsors, the staff team and volunteers all in support of these young artists.  The multimedia exhibits shown on the evening were very powerful, demonstrating the valuable insights young people have into issues within our communities.”

FreqOUT! uses digital new media and emergent technologies to empower young people, to give them a voice and to engage them in creative learning.  The project focuses on helping hard to reach and culturally excluded groups to share their 'voice' through digital media.  The summer and autumn programme 'Can you HEAR me?' has been running a range of projects throughout Westminster and beyond.  It encourages young people to share their views, giving them the confidence to express themselves while improving their communication skills.

“Thank you so much for this opportunity.  Your staff were very professional, helpful and friendly, and made good use of the time we had to produce an excellent piece of work.  We’ve enjoyed all the drama work, miming, interviewing, filming, editing and learning new skills.  It was great to watch the films in such a gorgeous venue too.  I hope that we can do other projects with you”, one project partner concludes.

FreqOUT!:

FreqOUT! is a community arts project utlilising digital media to engage participants in creative learning.  Its innovative approach engages hard-to-reach, socially marginalized and culturally excluded groups.  Through interactive workshops, learners are inspired and guided by industry practicing digital artists and encouraged to share their "voice" through the medium of digital media.  The final product, always rooted in a personal, social or cultural theme is then presented by the new artists at a public showcase.  The venues for which are generously supplied by the many friends of FreqOUT! in the London Arts industry.
