Volunteering Together To Promote Employment Opportunities

Re-Evolve has been working with the Prince’s Trust’s Team Programme at City Westminster College to deliver volunteering projects for young people looking to get back into employment, training or education.  Most recently we worked with the Princes Trust team to deliver a youth event.

The young people were set the task of producing a careers event catered towards their peers.  Over four sessions, Julie Creffield, an event management specialist, guided them through the process of planning the event.  With the assistance of the Re-Evolve volunteers they had the freedom to own this event and channel their creative ideas.

The event took place on March 26th 2010 at Paddington Arts Centre with Re-Evolve headlining a debate forum centred around:

‘Why do girls achieve better grades than boys in education but boys go on to higher paid jobs?’

Many young people participated in a heated debate, presenting their arguments for and against this statement.  Re-Evolve volunteers filmed the forum which can be viewed  HERE

The challenge of running an event proved to be great success with contributions from professionals from various organisations such as City of Westminster College, Westminster Connexions, Defcon, Chelsea Football Club and MyBnk.  They provided practical activities, offered great advice and networked with young people.  Click HERE to take a look at the taster film.

The Re-Evolve team will use this experience to host a debating project with the next Princes Trust team at the end of June.  Watch this space!
