Ways into Work
Westminster Works Advisers will be present at the Ways into Work events organised by CityWest Homes. The Advisers will be able to give people guidance on the employment and training opportunities available and how to apply for them. The job fairs provide an opportunity for local residents to find advice and information in a friendly, local setting.
British Gas is one of the major employers hoping to talk to people who could apply to become engineers, during its 2010 recruitment drive. Their representatives will explain the company’s job entry requirements to interested jobseekers, so that candidates have the best information on how to position themselves to apply successfully. The current minimum requirements to apply for a British Gas engineer are four GCSEs (or equivalent) and a full or provisional driving licence.
Other opportunities being promoted at Ways into Work will be vacancies in retail during the Christmas season and opportunities in the construction industry. People will also find information from local colleges and advice on setting up in business.
Helen Forde, Westminster Works Team Leader, said, “Looking for work isn’t easy in this tough economic climate but there are good jobs and training opportunities and we want to make sure that local people know about them. Securing a job is unlikely unless the candidate is well prepared for the application and interview. Our experienced Advisers are here to help. They will support candidates through the whole process.”
The Ways into Work job fairs take place on September 16th at Abbey Community Centre, 34 Great Smith Street, SW1 3BU and on September 23rd at The Stowe Centre, 258 Harrow Road, W2 5ES. Both events run from 1pm to 4pm.
