About Going Green

Going Green is our estate-based programme, which promotes sustainable environmental behaviour.  Community Green Champions (formerly known as Recycling Champions) promote recycling, composting and energy efficiency on estates and we work with schools in providing environmental clubs for local children.

Vital Regeneration’s innovative neighbourhood recycling and composting programme raises awareness among residents of Church Street and Queen’s Park.  It aims to increase the number of households participating in local recycling and composting initiatives.  The programme also works to improve recycling facilities on high-rise estates.

We consult residents to find out about areas of community concern and improve recycling facilities to overcome the barriers that people have experienced.  We want the community to become actively involved in our projects and we always seek to make recycling as convenient as possible.

For central London residents living in dense housing, having a garden is rare.  Particularly in high-rise housing, people face the barrier of not having an environmentally-friendly method to dispose of organic waste.

Engaging children in the issue helps to show their households what to do with organic waste.  It demonstrates to families how easy it is to make and use compost, even without a garden.  Children at The Greenside Community Centre after-school Homework Club enjoy learning about the environment through the Going Green project.
