About Re-Evolve
Re-Evolve is led by 16-25 year olds from hard to reach backgrounds such as those who are not in education, employment or training (known as NEET), young ex-offenders and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups. It focuses on encouraging volunteering and boosting employability skills.
Volunteers benefit from hands on volunteering experiences in the workplace. In the Re-Evolve project, young people can then share their experiences and discoveries with their peers through an online resource, where they can literally tap into the experience of people their own age. The service also runs events, including workshops in schools and colleges. Through this initiative, Re-Evolve volunteers are ‘learning by doing’ - becoming more enterprising and business-minded, taking on the responsibility of running the service.
Key to the project’s success is a social networking platform www.re-evolve.com. Volunteers identify and find work placements, enabling them to learn about the world of work and make themselves more employable. Volunteers upload information resources to the website (similar to Facebook) to share their experiences with other young people.
v, the youth volunteering charity, has contributed £295,000 to the project, which will be delivered over a period of three years. The project recruited a core group of volunteers who are receiving vocational training in the industry of their choice, and are involved in all aspects of creating and delivering the careers service themselves, including event management, marketing, careers advice, administration, finance, web design and the production of vocational toolkits.
To fully support volunteers, Re-Evolve also puts on skills development courses and workshops. Volunteers are also encouraged to link with industry mentors to help guide them and share information on how to better their knowledge and development within a particular industry. At the same time, users are being sign-posted to volunteering opportunities, internships, work placements, apprenticeships, training and further education, enabling them to pinpoint and achieve their personal career goals.
Since April 2008, 187 volunteers have participated in Re-Evolve.
